Not Done Yet: Johnny Damon

Johnny Damon, Still Going

The Indians have signed free agent Johnny Damon. Not a bad move. I’m a little surprised it took this long for someone to pick him up. After all, he’s only been good everywhere he’s played.

Damon’s age, which often translates to declining skills, is the reason he wasn’t on a team before now.  That said, his last couple of years were good.  He hit over .260, averaged 12 HRs, over 60 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases.  He does a little of everything.

No reason he can’t be the same guy this year.  I would look for him to hit around .265, with 13 HRs, 70 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.  No single stat pops out, but all together they are pretty good.  In addition, Damon is close (less then 300 hits away) from 3000 hits.  He has motivation to do good.

Although not an elite player, it wouldn’t be a stretch for Damon to be owned in all but shallow leagues.  Definite add in deep leagues.

He’s proven year after year that he can play.  No need to over-think this one.
