Of all the shortstops in baseball, none have been better over the first weekend then Rafael Furcal.
With the departure of Pujols, the defending champions need all their guys to perform to pick up the slack. A key spot for any team is the leadoff guy. For St. Louis, that falls on Furcal – and he has delivered.
So far, Furcal is batting .526, with 1 BB, 2K, 3 RBI, 3 Runs, and 2 SB. In short, he is doing everything you want from the leadoff guy. He’s getting on base and causing havoc once there. Even without Pujols, St. Louis still has some nice hitters, so Furcal should score a lot of runs.
It’s very, very early in the season – but a healthy Furcal (even at 34 years old) is a guy who can be owned in just about any format in fantasy. As of now, he is owned in less then half of leagues. Unless you have a top guy at SS, Furcal is probably better then what you got.
