You may not have heard of him, but at his current pace, everyone will have heard of him soon. His name, Josh Rutledge – SS for the Rockies. Kinda weird talking about a Colorado SS and not be talking about Tulowitski. But what Rutledge has done since being called up in mid-July demands attention.
Since being called up, Rutledge is batting .381 with 3 HRs, 11 RBIs, and 3 SB (63 ABs). Wow! It’s arguable that he is the hottest player in baseball over that time. Leading up to his promotion, Rutledge was hitting .306 with 13 HRs, 35 RBIs, and 14 SBs in the minors (87 games). No wonder he got the call.
So rush out and grab him on your fantasy team? Probably, but be sure to consider one thing, Tulo should be back at the end of August. You would think that they would find a way to keep Rutledge’s bat in games if he keeps up his torrid pace, but it’s possible that he could end up a bench player late in the year (during your fantasy playoff run). Other then that, there is a lot to like here. His numbers make him ownable in all formats.
