Sleeper Report: Bargains
Ike Davis – 1B – Mets
Davis broke out in 2010 when he took over first base for the Mets and went on to smack 19 home runs. The lefty came into 2011 with high hopes and those hopes were being fulfilled early on as Davis stormed out of the gates with seven home runs, eight doubles and 25 RBI’s while batting .307 in the first 36 games. Then came a serious ankle injury that ended Davis’ season.
The injury wasn’t as serious as first thought and Davis is 100% as spring training gets ready to begin in 2012. Big things are expected out of Davis from the Mets as he is slated to bat clean up, and while the Mets’ line up doesn’t exactly scare anybody, Davis just may be the best hitter in their line up.
Davis was on track for a .300, 30 home run, 100 RBI season before the injury, and while he may not be quite that good, .290 and 25 home runs should be a reasonable goal and Davis should fall in the draft making him a draft day bargain.
