Goodbye to Youk

Will Middlebrooks

It’s official, Kevin Youklis is not longer a Boston Red Sox. A little surprising that they were shopping him so hard, but regardless, Youk is a Chicago White Sox. So, he just changed his sox colors.

Youk is a hard-nosed player who is one of the hardest outs in baseball – when healthy.  Injuries have always been a problem with Youklis and this is the biggest reason he was shopped.  Still, he’s got a lot of baseball in him and should be a great addition for Chicago (I was really hoping my Dodgers would land him).

The other reason that Youk was expendable is due to the emergence of Will Middlebrooks.  Last year in the minors, Middlebrooks hit .285 with 23 HRs and 10 SB.  Very nice.  This year in the minors (24 games) he hit .333 with 9 HRs and 3 SB.  Very, very nice.  Once called up, Middlebrooks did not slow down.  In his 144 ABs so far, he has 9 HRs, 34 RBIs, and has swiped 2 bags.  He has shown himself more then major league capable thus far.  In fact, at this pace, he could be in line for rookie of the year!

For fantasy – both these guys are ownable in all formats.  Youk is a high average hitter with some pop – but beware of his injuries.  Middlebrooks numbers speak for themselves, but remember, he just got to the majors this year, so there may be some regression as pitchers ‘figure him out’.
