The Brewers will be without Chris Narveson for a couple of weeks and perhaps a whole lot more. A torn rotator cuff will do that. Long story short, he’s being evaluated and may need surgery.
While he’s down, Marco Estrada will be moved from the pen to the rotation. The Brewers, even with out Fielder, are a good team, so their pitchers get a little extra attention. What does Estrada bring to the table?
Estrada is a pretty good strikeout pitcher with some command issues. Kinda falls into the category of pitchers that nibbles too much to try and strike everyone out. Still, a good amount of Ks can be helpful. Last year Estrada pitched 92 innings, had 88 Ks, 39 BB, and a 4.08 ERA (mostly out of the pen). Nothing amazing, but nothing too terrible. Frankly, he needs to improve his control a little to be really viable. At 28 years old, no reason to think that he can’t make more improvements.
For fantasy purposes Estrada is a gamble. If he pitches like he has in the past then he is only useful in deep leagues. If he makes some strides forward, and gets a long term gig in the rotation, then he could be a nice sleeper with the potential for good wins and Ks.
