KC catcher, Salvador Perez, has played in 11 games this year – he has at least one hit in all of them. Impressive!
Perez is KC’s top catching prospect. With an impressive 2011 debut in the majors (39 games, .331, 3 HR, 21 RBI) he looked to be the starter for 2012. However, in March, he injured his knee and was out for over 3 months. But now healed of that injury, he’s back and picked up where he left off.
In his 11 games this year, he is batting .425, has 8 runs, 3 HRs, and 7 RBIs. He has started strong! His past shows that he has excellent plate discipline, his average just seems to get better every year (as mentioned, .331 in the majors last year, .340 in limited minor league rehab this year). He’s never hit more then 13 HRs in a year, but he’s only 22 so there is still potential for more power.
On top of good hitting, he is an excellent defensive catcher. No wonder KC is so high on this guy.
For fantasy, I think Perez can be owned in all but the shallowest leagues. If nothing else, he should hit for average – but has potential for some power too. KC is not as good as I’d thought they’d be this year, but they still have some very nice talent for Perez to hit with. If you need any help at catcher, you could do a whole lot worse then Salvador Perez.
