Advancing Lance

Lance Lynn

Last year we had ‘Advancing Vance’ – Vance Worely – you’re welcome. This year we are advancing Lance – Lance Lynn.

Chris Carpenter is dealing with nerve issues in his shoulder which causes his arm to lose strength.  There is no structural damage, but this injury has had him miss significant time in his past.  It is almost guaranteed that he will miss the start of the season with the timetable for his return being fuzzy at best.  Someone needs to take his spot in the rotation, and that person is Lance Lynn.

Lynn has had a nice spring.  He has pitched 15 innings,  has a 2.87 ERA and 9 Ks.  Not eye popping, but solid numbers.  The 24 year old righty had a taste of the bigs last year and did well.  He had 40 Ks in 34 innings and an ERA of 3.12.  If nothing else, he seems to be able to hold his own against big league pitching.

Even without Pujols, the Cardinals are a good team.  Lynn will be their #5 starter and is looking like a guy who could be a #2 or #3.

For fantasy, Lynn is worth a late pick in the draft or consideration for a waiver wire pickup.  Carpenter may be back in a few weeks, or could be out for the year – it’s just unknown.  The other question is that the Cardinals have a stud prospect in Shelby Miller, so Lynn could be a short leash.  Still, what looks to be a good pitcher on a good team is a nice guy to have, even if it’s only temporary.
