He is 6-6, 280 pounds of home-run-hitting flesh. He smashed
73 home runs with his 1662 career minor league at bats (he
batted .304) and smashed ten more with just 148 at bats
at the end of the 2009 season. That would put him on pace
for over 40 home runs in a full season. That is a bit lofty,
but that is the kind of hitter Kyle Banks potentially is.
He was batting .377 with two home runs and seven stolen
bases for Triple-A Syracuse and is batting .288 with two
home runs, two triples and two stolen bases since his call
up. If he keeps hitting, he will keep starting.
If he was starting, he would likely be a fantasy starter
today, but he is getting only spot starts for now. He has
good power (14 in AA with 307at bats) and can hit for average.
The Cubs first-round-pick of 2006 has a bright future, but
he will only start if there is an injury in the Cubs' outfield.
He is tearing it up in AA and now has a Minor League-leading
15 home runs for Double-A Jacksonville. The 20-year-old
could get the call in late May or early June if he continues
to hit.
