| Denard Span - Minnesota
Twins - He broke out in 2009, but stayed under
the radar enough to remain a likely bargain draft pick
in 2010. Span batted .311 with 8 home runs, 10 triples,
16 doubles and 23 stolen bases with 578 at bats in his
first full season. The bottom line is Span is an excellent
hitter. He has a great 70 walk to 89 strikeout ratio,
which is great for a young hitter. He is good for a .300
plus average, but can give you points in all categories
across the board, especially in points leagues. |
OF |
| Corey Hart - Milwaukee
Brewers - After back-to-back seasons of averaging
22 home runs and 23 stolen bases, the 27-year-old Hart
regressed in his third full year to just 11 home runs,
11 stolen bases and a .260 average. Of course, much of
that is due to an injury (two broken fingers,) and he
Hart finished with just 419 at bats. He should fall in
most drafts, but don't let him fall too far, he could
return to his former self and be a draft-day bargain. |
RF |
| Conor Jackson - Arizona
Diamondbacks - He fell of the fantasy radar after
missing much of the season with a viral infection in 2009.
He batted .300 with twelve home runs, 31 doubles, six
triples and ten stolen bases. |

| Jake Peavy - Chicago
White Sox - In between injuries and having little
run support from the lowly San Diego Padre offense, we
have never really seen Peavy's full-potential. With that
said he has gone 19-6 with a 2.45 ERA in 2007 and 15-6
with a 2.27 ERA in 2004 with the Padres. In addition,
his lifetime K/9-ratio is just about 9.0 on the dot, and
that is among the best for any fantasy starting pitcher.
Now you have Peavy moving to the American League which
could mean a raise in ERA, but in his short time with
the White Sox in 2009 he went 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA including
finishing with 15 consecutive scoreless innings. That
is a pretty good start and there is no reason to believe
that with a very good White Sox offense behind him that
Peavy cannot pick up where he left off in 2009 and have
a Cy-Young-type 2010 season. |
SP |
| Josh Johnson - Florida
Marlins - The 6-7 lefty will just be turning 26,
so he has a lot of upside. He has a career record of 34
wins and 16 losses with a 3.40 ERA and a 7.95 K/9-ratio.
He can easily pop into the top-twenty or higher. |
SP |
| Yovani Gallardo - Milwaukee
Brewers - The 24-year-old fireballer posted a 9.91
K/9-ratio in 2009, but only managed a 13-12 record with
a 3.73 ERA. If he improves his win-loss percentage and
ERA, he could be a top-ten fantasy starting pitcher. |
SP |
| Ted Lilly - Chicago
Cubs - The veteran keeps pitching well and keeps
being overlooked in fantasy drafts. He will usually get
you 15 wins and ERA in the mid to upper threes and he
has a very solid lifetime 7.72 K/9-ratio. |
SP |
| Francisco Liriano - Minnesota
Twins - Sometimes it is hard to give up on a talent
and Liriano still has a shot to make it as a fantasy starting
pitcher. He has looked great during winter ball in the
Dominican Republic and is now two full years past his
injury. Watch him in spring training and draft him at
the end of the draft or watch him as a free agent. |
