2010 Fantasy Baseball Sleeper Report
|
|
Outfield
Rookies |
Player |
Pos |
| Austin Jackson - Detroit
Tigers - He was acquired in the Curtis Granderson
trade for the Yankees. In AAA Scranton he batted .300
and stole 24 bases. He is a bit of a free-swinger and
that is not a good thing when you only hit four home runs,
but he has plenty of time to grown. He has a great chance
at winning the starting centerfield spot in Detroit and
if he does he can be bat .280 and steal 25-40 home runs.
His power numbers should be better than his AAA numbers.
You can hope for seven to ten. |
OF |
| Jason Heyward - Atlanta
Braves - Possibly the top prospect in baseball
could be coming to a fantasy team soon. The 20-year-old
has everything you want in a fantasy player, power, speed
and he can hit for average. He has 25 home run, 20 stolen
base potential (.318, 29 home runs, 26 stolen bases with
a minor league career 876 at bats), but we will be lucky
to get a piece of that in 2010. See what happens in spring
training, but he is more likely to be brought up in the
second half. |
OF |
| Desmond Jennings - Tampa
Bay Rays - Another young Ray that fantasy owners
should be licking their chomps about. Desmond hit 10 home
runs, 11 triples, 31 doubles, and stole 52 bases in 2009
AA Montgomery and AAA Durham combined. Pop and speed.
A young Carl Crawford ...Potentially. |
OF |
| Michael Brantley - Cleveland
Indians - Has a shot at starting in left field
and would make a solid third outfielder. He has a good
shot at batting .300 and stealing 20-30 bases (stole 46
in '09 AAA), but has no power. |

Pitching
Rookies |
Player |
Pos |
| Brian Matusz -
Baltimore Orioles - The 23-year-old lefty went
5-2 with a 4.63 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 44.2 innings
and is expected to be part of an upcoming young Oriole
pitching staff. He is polished pitcher for his age and
had a slightly good fastball (94 mph) and throws a nasty
curve and slider. Toss in a solid change-up and you have
the makings of a great fantasy pitcher. |
SP |
| Madison Bumgarner - San
Francisco Giants - He is only twenty-years-old,
so the likelihood of him having a major fantasy impact
in 2010 is low, but there is no doubting his talent and
that makes him a worthwhile gamble at the end of the draft.
He was an amazing 275 with a 1.65 ERA and 256 strikeouts
in 273 innings in his minor league career. |
SP |
| Stephen Strasburg -
Washington Nationals - Like Bumgarner his impact
may be minimal in 2010, but the the 2009 #1 overall draft
pick won't be in the minors too long, so keep on eye on
him to help you out in the second-half. |
SP |
Wade Davis
- Tampa Bay Rays - Went 50-40
with a 3.29 ERA and a 8.7 K/9-ratio in his minor league
career. A power pitcher with a 96 mph fastball. He also
throws a curve, a straight change and a new cut fastball.
He will never be a fantasy-stud, but he should be around
for years. |
