2012 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers: Yoenis Cespedes

Sleeper Report: Rookies

Yoenis Cespedes – OF A’s
Though not technically a rookie, the 26-year-old Cuban All Star will make his big league debut as an Oakland Athletic after signing a 4-year, $36 million contract. Cespedes is one of the most hyped players to come out of Cuba in a generation.

Yoenis CespedesCespedes is considered a five-tool center fielder, which is a fantasy owners dream, but it is hard to gauge exactly where he will land as a major leaguer.

In the 2010-2011 season he batted .333 with 33 home runs, 99 RBI’s, 89 runs and 11 stolen bases in 90 games.

He has good power and good speed, but isn’t a pure hitter by any means. He is very susceptible to chasing pitches out of the zone and will rack up many K’s, but his good bat speed turns some of those bad pitches into hits.

Cespedes is a gamble at any point before the 9th round, but he could have tremendous payoff if he plays to his full potential.
