Sleeper Report: Rookies
Shelby Miller – SP – Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals #1 pick (19th overall) in the 2009 MLB draft and is considered the top right-handed pitching prospect in baseball.
Miller is a classic power pitcher who throws heat. His four-seamer already is clocked between 92-94 mph, and regularly hits up to 96 mph. his specialty is his 12-to-6 curveball which spins in the high 70s/low 80s with plus break, though he needs to improve his command to make it big in the majors.
Miller has gone 11-6 with a 2.77 ERA in his brief minor league career and struck out an impressive 170 batters in 139.2 innings pitched.
Miller will likely start the season in the minors, or in the St. Louis bullpen, but it is only a matter of time before they let their highly-prized prospect into the starting rotation.
