Sleeper report: Breakouts
Madison Bumgarner – SP – Giants
The lefty has been on the fantasy radar for 3 years now and he is finally showing the signs of being the dominating pitcher he was touted to be.
Bumgarner finished with a so-so 13-13 record and a 3.21 ERA while posting 191 strikeouts in 204.1 innings pitched. All very solid numbers, but the hope lies in second half numbers where he went 9-4 with a 2.52 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 100 innings.
Baseball America ranked Bumgarner as the ninth best prospect in baseball in 2009, so big things are expected from him. The is no reason not to expect him to be as good as any of the pitchers who are projected to go as high as the second round or possibly even first round, but at a much cheaper price.
