Sleeper Report: Rookies
Brett Jackson – OF – Cubs
The 23-year-old prospect spent the 2011 season split in AA Tennessee and AAA Iowa where he batted .274 with 20 home runs and 21 stolen bases.
Jackson has the ability to be an easy 20-20 major league player if he can improve his swing mechanics and gain the ability to make contact against better pitching. Jackson has above-average bat speed to go with his above-average running speed. He works counts and will take walks, but he strikeouts too much. He doesn’t look like a future .300 hitter, but he should draw enough walks to keep his OBP at more-than-acceptable levels.
Jackson will likely open the season in AAA Iowa, so be careful if you choose to draft him, but he will get the call at some point in 2012 and he will not likely be a free agent at the time of his call-up.
