Detroit’s best pitching prospect has made his 2012 debut. Let’s hope Jacob Turner does a little better then his 2011 MLB attempts.
Well, after one start (yesterday vs. the Cardinals) Turner did alright. He went 5 innings, gave up 1 run, 3 Ks, and 5 BB. A mixed bag here. Giving up only 1 run is always nice. You would hope your starter would go past 5 innings, but that is tolerable. 3 Ks in 5, is average. 5 BB – awful! It’s only 1 start, but Turner didn’t exactly turn heads (no pun intended).
In the minors this year, Turner has been very good. In 63 innings, he has a nice 2.83 ERA with 44 Ks and 26 BBs. So good ERA, average Ks, average to below average walks.
For fantasy, Turner is best suited for deep leagues. He plays for a good Detroit team, but until he lowers his walks, he’s going to be dangerous to roll with. He’s worth keeping an eye on, but he’s probably a year or so away from being a universally ownable fantasy pitcher.
